leaves THE SHORTLIDGE WHITE BUILDING (on campus) at 9AM — click here for the schedule
Join us for a special field trip to Philipsburg’s historical Rowland Theatre, where teachers and students will get the opportunity to work with international filmmakers, who are here for the film festival, as well as local entertainment professionals. Get front-row seats to the many elements of making films! Learn about the exciting world of filmmaking, theatre, writing, dance and music arts! [Yes, this can be a project toward Extra Credit, too!]
Everyone will meet in the morning over coffee and refreshments and then students will break out into different short masterclasses to explore their own interests. Everyone will then gather together at the end to share what they did and watch the film Homeboys about refugee Sudanese teens trying to make their first hip hop album.
Teachers will also have the opportunity to discuss arts pedagogy in addition to discussing with industry professionals some training tips for different roles on a film set. Learn about how to incorporate these sorts of activities in your own classrooms at school and discover art resources that are both local and national.
9:30am – 10am — Registration & Refreshments
10am – Noon — Workshops

It’s your moment! From scene painting to acting, let’s do it! Spend time with Tempest Studio’s founder & director Cynthia Mazzant who’ll teach the more dramatic side of self-expression for film, theatre or just because!
Do you think that music and a big dream can change someone’s life? Let’s try it here with visiting artists who worked with African teens on Homeboys to write rap/hiphop about their situation as refugees. Then let’s watch the film!
