Centre Film Festival fosters community, economic development in sixth year

The Centre Film Festival, founded by Pearl Gluck and Curt Chandler, promotes indie films and fosters community and economic growth in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Now in its sixth year, the festival has expanded from a weekend event to a weeklong celebration, screening 100 films in various categories. It also helps local businesses and attracts out-of-town visitors, while providing Penn State students with free access to screenings and opportunities to engage with industry professionals.
Centre Film Festival earns Community Engagement and Scholarship Award

The Centre Film Festival (CFF), led by Pearl Gluck, has been awarded the 2024 Penn State Award for Community Engagement and Scholarship. Since its inception in 2019, CFF has become a significant community event, showcasing over 500 films and engaging both local and global filmmakers, students, and residents. The festival promotes diverse topics and offers students hands-on experience with industry professionals, while also serving as a platform for high school workshops and collaborations with local organizations.
Centre Film Festival Winners Shine at Oscars

The 2023 Centre Film Festival showcased films that have since gained Oscar recognition, including Fancy Dance and Letter to a Pig. Fancy Dance, directed by Erica Tremblay and starring Lily Gladstone, won Best Actress and Best Film at the festival, while Letter to a Pig, an animated short by Tal Kantor, won Best Animated Short Film. The festival continues to grow in popularity, attracting filmmakers and audiences alike, and has become an integral part of the local arts scene, fostering community engagement and contributing to Centre County’s cultural and economic development.
